We note their excellence in academics, the arts, athletics, community service, allyship, and advocacy. Graduation marks both the culmination of their\u00a0 K-12 Berkeley Unified education and also their stepping off point for all the adventures ahead. I am confident that the Class of 2024 will apply what they have learned here at ºÚÁÏÍøto make positive contributions to our world. Thank you to the parents, caregivers, families, and staff who have lifted up our graduating class during their thirteen years at BUSD. Your love and support has been foundational for these young adult scholars.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Congratulations also to our rising 6th and 9th grade students who were recognized at recent promotion ceremonies at their elementary and middle schools. We are excited to welcome them to middle school and high school in August.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have much to be proud of in our collective work on behalf of ºÚÁÏÍøstudents during the 2023-2024 school year. A few highlights include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The strong passage of Measure H &#8211; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.berkeleyschools.net\/departments\/bsep\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Berkeley Schools Excellence Program (BSEP)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which supports high quality instruction; small class sizes; professional development; school libraries; academic support; counseling; music, visual, and performing arts; instructional technology; and so much more.\u00a0 Thank you Berkeley!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advancements in student mental health and well-being, including the opening of the Wellness Center at Berkeley High School.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our focus on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.berkeleyschools.net\/literacy\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">literacy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as a key district initiative, including year-long district wide professional development for all our elementary teachers, an inventory of literacy intervention at middle school, and the launch of our elementary literacy curriculum adoption committee\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Significant advancements in our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.berkeleyschools.net\/climate-literacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">climate literacy and sustainability work<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including hosting BUSD\u2019s second Climate Fair and piloting a reusable food ware project in several schools, replacing single-use trays and plastic utensils that end up in landfills with reusable stainless steel materials.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The introduction of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.berkeleyschools.net\/disability-awareness-and-history-month\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">January as Disability Awareness and History Month<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at BUSD, furthering our commitment to uplift members of our school community and provide welcoming and affirming schools for all students.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enjoy your summer break.
